Free text | This document it is the result of a research project intiated by Save the Children in Sri Lanka and Save the Children Canada in acknowledgement of the large number of children in institutional care in Sri Lanka and the quality of care.The study was conducted in the Western, Southern, Central an North-East provinces of Sri Lanka. The research revealed that institutionalization is becoming an option for families in difficult circumnstances in the absence of alternative forms of care. The main objectives of the research were: to map basic informaion of children's institutions; to determine the quality of services in institutions to meet children's needs, expectations and challenges in the present and future, to assess and identify gaps in existing policies, procedures and regulations to childre's insitutions, to identify causal factors for the institutionalization of children and track preventive practices and alternatives to institutional care. |
