| Free text | Description of the programme for after adoption support for families having adopted internationally developed by this Dutch organization. The programme is divided into three areas: pre-adoption courses for prospective adoptive parents; guidance during the first year after placement (particularly through Video Interaction Guidance through which parents and children's interaction is studied to help parents interact with their children); support services for families experiencing difficulties later on in the placement. The department of aftercare is responsible for the production of brochures to help adoptive families. Thirteen are beeing prepared: 1- Adoptees in primary school: Information for adoptive parents; 2- Adoptees in primary school: Information for teachers; 3- Adopting siblings/triblings; 4- The first year of adoptive parenthood; 5- Adopting a child with a developmental disorder; 6- Adoption and the process of attachment; 7- Puberty and adoption; 8- Anger and aggression in adoptive families; 9- Self-image and identity in adoptive families; 10- Loss and grieve by adoption; 11- Placement in care: When support of the adoptive family is inadequate; 12- Loyalties in adoptive families; 13- In search of your roots. Courses are available focusing on different phases of development of the child - in primary school, during the teenage years. In addition to these services, medical advice is available in the Netherlands to adoptive parents through their chosen pediatrician or a specialist in tropical diseases using a protocol for medical examination of intercountry adopted chidren elaborated by the Dutch Association of Tropical Pediatricians. Adoptive agencies, organizations of adoptees, programmes that mix adoptive parents and foster parents in discussion of shared problems, as well as counselling programmes that give the opportunity to link birth parents' point of view and adoptive parents' experience are also available in the country. |
