Free text | The author, clinical psychologist, family therapist and adoptive mother has prepared this guide to help prospective adoptive parents through the process of international adoption in Spain. Through personal testimonies and factual information on the administrative, practical and legal process (including the weaknesses of the system), she emphasizes the need for preparation and counseling for adoptive families, as well as professional training for those having to deal with these families at all stages of the adoptive process. The problems of interacial adoption is dealt with through the personal accounts of adoptive couples. The issue of traffick and illegal practices in intercountry adoptions is linked with the need to provide parents with information on the realities existing in certain countries of origin, in particular the Latin American countries, and to insure that there is sufficient knowledge and understanding of the ethical principles to be followed throughout the process of adoption. |
