Free text Reproduction of an article published in Adoption and Fostering in 1994 (from Singposts in Adoption. Policy, practice and research issues, BAAF, 1998) with comments on the importance of the role of accredited bodies, in line with the prescriptions of the Hague Convention of 1993 on intercountry adoptions. The authors compare the practices in various "receiving" countries of Europe and the United Kingdom experience up to 1994, insisting on the need for proper adoption assistance for intercountry adoptions, as well as post-adoption support services like those available for domestic adoptions.
