Free text Description of the Québec model of fostering/adoption called "banque mixte" based on the American model of "concurrent placements" or "fost/adopt". Foster parents are recruited from waiting prospective adoptive parents who accept to foster a child at high risk of being abandoned or who could ultimately become fully adoptable. Children are often classified as difficult to place and/or present "special needs". This article is one of several in this issue of Informations sociales dedicated entirely to the "Desire for a child" (Désir d'enfant). Articles cover issues of infertility, medically-assisted procreation, adolescent pregnancies and cloning.
