State-receiving Practice Adoption-intercountry |
Free text | Speech by Virginia Bottomley, UK Minister of Health at BAAF's International Conference on intercountry adoption (17 September 1991). She presents concerns with intercountry adoption in the UK, pointing out reservations which include possible traffick involving adoption of children from the third world; lack of preparedness of adopters to potential health and behaviour problems they are likely to find in their adopted children; children brought into the country without the proper assessment of a adoption agency on the elligibility of the prospective adoptive parents; national and international efforts needed to guarantee that the rights and best interests of the child are respected in the process of intercountry adoptions. |
