Free text | Text of Communiqué distributed and signed by the International Social Service (ISS), Defence for Children International, International Catholic Child Bureau (BICE) and Save the Children Alliance on the aftermath of Hurricane Mitch which badly hit various countries in Central America. With the best interests of the children in the affected countries in mind, and following disturbing calls in certain international media for intercountry adoption as a means of helping orphaned or presumed orphaned children, these NGOs decided to speak out in order to prevent trafficking and protect the children separated from their families during the catastrophe. |
