Free text | This is a review of present policies in children's rights in the USA and the extent to which these are implemented in practice. The author gives an account of the rise of children's rights movements since the 1960s. Different chapters comment on the rights of children to substitute family care (foster care and adoption), the rights of children with disabilities, of juveniles in residential treatment, and the role of child protection services in cases of abuse and neglect of children. The author presents existing views on the debate on the subject of state intervention in relation to rights of children vs the rights of parents. |
