Free text | This booklet is a report of the Asian Civil Registrars General Convention held in Bangkok, Thailand, on 17-20 November 1999 to commemorate the first decade of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The four-day meeting brought together some 100 people from 17 countries, including the government officials who are tasked to implement Birth Registration. This Right of the Child concerns very much Asia because of the estimated 40 millions children born annually without being registered, two-thirds are Asian new-borns. One of the outcomes of the meeting was the formation of the Asian Birth Registration and this report which presents the situation of 13 countries: Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Norway, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. |
