Free text The author reviews studies on outcomes for children adopted internationally to the UK. She puts forward arguments that counter "political and ideological considerations" creating opposition to intercountry adoption in the UK on the grounds of its resemblance to a "new form of colonialism", or the dangers associated with trafficking in children. Her presentation of results of studies carried out in a number of receiving countries seem to point to mostly positive outcomes for these children, eventhough some issues have not been fully explored. The studies reviewed cover issues of national or cultural identity, racism, educational attainment, behavioural problems, relationships within the adoptive family.
