| Free text | The study conducted by the authors involves four agencies, three local authorities and one voluntary adoption agency who placed children under some type of contact scheme. Different types of arrangements were reviewed and opinions of birthparents, adoptive parents and children were obtained. The book begins by defining the types of open adoptions which includes ongoing contact of some kind between the family of origin and the child within the adoptive family. Chapter 2 discusses different aspects of contact in adoption - more research seems to be needed to establish the necessity for contact for the the child's wellbeing or construction of his identity. Chapter 3 discusses Policy, law and openness in adoption . Conclusions of this study seem to agree with other studies on the fact that "openness is an evolutionary process" throughout the life of the protagonists and contact is mostly considered to be beneficial to the members of the adoption triad. |
