" The basic material for this study was assembled by the International Union for Child Welfare, Geneva at the invitation of the United Nations. It is based in large part on replies to a questionnaire on adoption practice sent by the IUCW to its member organizations and other child welfare agencies in a number of countries. Included it it also are information and conclusions put forward at a conference on adoption held by the IUCW in Geneva, in July 1952. There were representatives from eight countries, the International Social Service, the World Health Organisation and the United Nations at this conference."
