Free text | Presentation to the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation Grantees Conference (April 1988) on child welfare policy involving "family preservation" as a "provision of intensive professional assistance to families in crisis for the purpose of restoring adequate family functioning and thereby averting the need for the removal of children". Presents the elements involved in this model of assistance to families as primarily: 1- family-centered intervention - that is involving all family members; 2- the services are delivered in the home, in the "real life environment of the family"; 3- it is multi-problem orientated, "on the assumption that a multiplicity of interacting and different problems most frequently disable family functioning and 4- intensive but short-term interaction by family preservation workers. |
