Free text | The older adoptive child is different from an infant placed for adoption. He may already have been through a number of foster placements and needs to be given time and understanding in the process of accepting the termination of contact with his family of origin. When adoption is considered, the differences with the temporary arrangement he has known with fostering must be explained and he must be prepared for this change. The child may go through a period of testing the new situation and the new family permanent commitment to him and he must be helped through this period, as well as the adoptive family. |
