Free text | This skills development training programme has been developed for agencies to use with caregivers who have children in placement who have been sexually abused. It originates from the work of Gerrily Smith, a clinical psychologist, trainer and consultant in child protection, and has been developed by her and others at BAAF. The book contains general guidance for trainers and workers in running courses for caregivers about child sexual abuse and a skills development course for foster caregivers and adopters who are currently caring for a child who has been sexually abused, based on the premise that children can be helped to recover in a family environment where their caregivers are actively engaged with them in assisting their recovery. There are also pointers to other useful resources, handouts, notes for trainers, overheads for display and useful reading material. The programme is also accompanied by a video Parenting a child who has been sexually abused. Conversations with Gerrilyn Smith and Yvonne Ayo; John Simmonds and Kate Cairns (Editor’s abstract) |
