Free text | On the issue of open adoption, the authors come to the conclusion that current available research does not clearly point out the benefits to the adoption ' triad ' of full openness. Among the risks and 'challenges' presented by open adoption they list the risk of a lack of adjustment by the birth mother to the loss of her child, attachment or bonding problems with the adoptive parents with subsequent identity formation difficulties; there is a further risk in the child grieving if contact between the adoptive family and the birth parents comes to an end for any reason. |
