Free text | Presentation at the Secretariat of the International Conference on War-Affected Children, Winnipeg, Canada, 11 - 17 September 2000 (from the website of the Canadian Government). The author presents the plight of children born from rape during armed conflicts such as the Bosnian war. The births resulting from this conflict are the result of what is categorized as "forced pregnancy" or "forced maternity", used in this conflict as a form of "ethnic pollution" by the perpetrators to destabilize the community of the opposing ethnic group. If the children survive through birth and possible infanticide by the distressed mothers, they face the discrimination of the rest of the community for what they represent |
