Free text Research into the "ethnoracial awareness" in US families having adopted internationally and interracially. The authors note the importance of the residency period in the country of origin before placement and adoption to enable adopting parents to deal more effectively with identity issues arising from ethnic and cultural differences. There is a frequent utilization and availability of a non-professional "cultural consultant" in the sociocultural milieu of the sample families studied, the importance of which in the child's adjustment could be the subject of a later study.
