Foster-care Kinship-care |
Free text | This article has been published in the book "Fostering Kinship - an International Perspective on Kinship Foster Care". It is drawn from a study which was undertaken in a child care agency in the Eastern Health Board area of Ireland in 1995. In its first section, it presents the place of relative care (= kinship care) in the Irish child welfare system. The central tenets of the "fifth province model", which underpins the study, are then briefly explained. A typology of relative care networks is presented in the final section. The implications of the different categories in terms of case management are discussed briefly. |
