Free text This book is a compilation of articles which makes a good panorama of research on contact in adoption and permanent foster care in United Kingdom. It presents studies about contact with birth family for children placed in infancy and adopted under age four, but also for children placed at older ages and in more difficult circumstances. Each chapter contains summary headlines listing the three main aims, the three main findings and the three main implication of the research presented as well as a bibliography. The book reflects the rapid changes that happened these past twenty years thinking about post-placement contact. In the early 1980s, few placed children had contact with their birth family. In contrast, birth family contact of some type is now usual for the majority of both adopted and fostered children. Changes in thinking about contact have come about for a number of reasons. Among others, because the placement of older children required a shif of thinking.
