Free text | The authors discuss the issue of permanency planning for children unable to live with their biological families and why some foster parents, given the opportunity to, decide to adopt children in their care while others choose not to. Among factors found to have a possible influence on this decision are: the family's prior experience with adoption and its motivation; biological family issues and how these are discussed and dealt with; continuity and quality of the relationship with case worker; socio-economic status of the family; the child's ability to form relationships and its resposiveness to the parents; the child's special needs as discussed during time adoption is considered. |
