Presentation by Pierre Verdier at the discussion on parenting by same-gender couples, organised by APGL (French association of homosexual and lesbian parents and prospective parents). The author stresses that what is important for the construction of identiy in the child, in any family situation, no matter how it is constructed, is not that there should exist a biological link between the parent and child or that there should be a masculin and feminin model present, but more that there should be truth and the acceptance that any person is entitled, when he/she feels the need, to know his/her origins. In his opinion, society will evolve and adapt to the families as they are being composed today. |
