Free text | In this book the authors explores the use of foster care as an alternative to custodial and residential accomodation for young people on remand. According to her she challenges negative public and political attitudes towards young people and the impact of these beliefs on criminal justice policy. The study is based on detailed interviews with young people who have been remanded to foster care, remand foster carers and lay youth court magistrates. The authors considers the processes whereby young people become involved in offending, how this can be exacerbated by involvement with the penal system and how community interventions like remand foster care can have a positive impact on a young person. |
