Comments on some of the problems faced by social workers who act as "counsellors" - finding out what type and how much information was wanted by adoptees, how to give information, how far to go in the information given. In chapter 7, The Social Identity of Adoption questions the concepts held by practitioners, researchers and legislators of the need to search; is it "natural" or "pathological"- deriving from some sort of maladjustment or bad adoptive experience?
