Free text The author expresses his concerns on the successful implementation of the principles set out in the Hague Convention on intercountry adoption. Areas of concern include: possible statelessness of children when adoption fails during a probationary period; the possibility of non-accredited bodies to be involved in adoption process; systematic monitoring needed (possibly by NGOs) in addition to periodic reviews built into the Convention; the need for assistance by countries of origin to set up their Central Authorities; the need for public information particularly in receiving countries on principles of the Convention.
