Free text | This book is written especially for child welfare workers, with the child as the primary focus of attention, with his needs, his feelings and behaviour once a decision has been made to place him in foster care. Chapter one deals with the development of attachment and bonding with a parent figure - observation checklists and symptom tables are provided for social workers to help them identify attachment problems, as well as exercises to help encourage attachment where it is needed. Chapter two is dedicated to the normal development of the child from birth through adolescence. Chapter three and four are dedicated to separation from home and the minimization of trauma - including preparation of the child for foster care and adoption. Further chapters emphasize the importance of planning and anticipating problems in case work with children |
