Free text | Adoptees are bombarded by verbal and non verbal messages from the outer world that directly negate and contradict their inner feelings and experiences. Based on 18 years of daily empirical research with adoptees (children, adolescents and adults), the book explores the crippling effect of these dilemmas on adoptees' attempts to develop a healthy, authentic psychological and social sense of self. It provides adoptees, adoptive parents and birthparents with knowledge and tools that can be used in healing this fracture (exercices are proposed but they are not intended to replace any therapy). The author, an adoptee himself, is psychotherapist and director of Adoption Crossroads in New York, a non profit organization that helps reunite and gives support to adoptees, birthparents and adoptive parents. |
